The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) asked for opinions on this post on their website on June 28, 2019. AVMA Have An Opinion?

A 40 year member AVMA declawing vet, who said he has declawed over 2000 cats, Robert Neunzig, wrote this comment on their post. (The text of Mr Neunzig’s comment is at the end of this story.) Mr Neunzig even said, “In my opinion it is finally time for our AVMA to not only challenge but to even publically attack such groups who’s mission is nothing more than a self centered attempt to control, intimidate and even harm many of our colleagues.”

PUBLICLY ATTACK GROUPS?  Is the AVMA ok with their declawing vets inciting others to attack groups?

Mr Neunzig said, “The psychological and emotional pressures many of your younger and yes, female colleagues in many instances is so large it is truly immeasurable.”

FEMALE COLLEAGUES? Is the AVMA ok with one of their good old boy vet’s saying such a sexist comment about their female veterinarians?

Mr Neunzig is an outspoken declawing advocate who said he’s done more than 2000 declaws in his career. Here’s more about how Mr Neunzig condones this barbaric amputation procedure in a DVM 360 story. Dr Robert Neunzig’s angry rant

Mr Neunzig even commented on this 2018 DVM 260 story, “Becoming a no-declaw veterinary practice.”  Link to story. http://veterinarymedicine.dvm360.com/becoming-no-declaw-veterinary-practice

———————————————————————————People who are opposed to this animal cruelty (declawing) and who are trying to educate the public and dinosaur vets like this one about the facts about declawing, started to make comments on this AVMA post.

(PLEASE TRY TO EDUCATE MR NEUNZIG ABOUT THE FACTS ABOUT DECLAWING AND HOW IT’S IMPORTANT THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE AND GROUPS WHO ARE TRYING TO END THIS ANIMAL CRUELTY.

PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL. TAKE A SCREENSHOT OF YOUR COMMENT BECAUSE THE AVMA MIGHT DELETE IT! SEND IT TO US IF THEY DELETE IT. [email protected])

THE AVMA STARTED DELETING YOUR COMMENTS!

Here are some of them that the AVMA deleted and here is their reasoning, “Feedback and discussion are welcome, but please note that we adhere to the social media moderation policy outlined here: https://www.avma.org/Pages/socialmediamoderation.aspx. All participation in AVMA social media platforms is subject to this policy. Previous replies have included personal attacks or were off-topic from the content of this blog post.”

I believe it is well past time for the AVMA to take a stand in regard to the activist humane groups who I coined a term humaniacs. These obsessed individuals and groups and often extremely irrational and even harmful to veterinarians have and do cause great harm to our profession as well as our colleagues. I might also add in most cases such attacks and irrational opinions are not based on even a shred of scientific fact. The psychological and emotional pressures many of your younger and yes, female colleagues in many instances is so large it is truly immeasurable.
I practiced for almost 40 years and learned that to allow one to be intimidated and even threatened by the humaniacs out there was always a mistake. However, in the age of social media and a populist that embraces all sorts of erroneous scientific and other facts is quite overwhelming for many of our colleagues as well as our profession. In my opinion it is finally time for our AVMA to not only challenge but to even publically attack such groups who’s mission is nothing more than a self centered attempt to control, intimidate and even harm many of our colleagues.
The truth lies in our science and the dedicated veterinarians who sacrificed so much to earn their degrees and dedicated their lives in helping pets and people. This story and fact is the best way to beat back the crazies out there that do not, in spite of the phony rhetoric, meet the same level of care and compassion we do.”
