The NYSVMS, Long Island Veterinary Medical Association, and other NY veterinary associations successfully stopped our bill. Some of the Senators had some “concerns” about our cat protection bill and obviously believed the NYSVMS’s disgusting propaganda about declawing.
The same NY veterinary association that is trying to kill our NY bill to ban the inhumane procedure of declawing is having a tasting and tour of the Hudson Valley Foie Gras Farm.
I thought that veterinarians and vet techs cared about ALL animals and are supposed to be all about helping and healing them.
Rhoda A Hogan wanted 1/8 th of her estate to be a bequest of $125,000 for, “An organization to be used to publicize and educate the public about the cruel effect of de-clawing cats and to support legislation forbidding it.”
She wanted declawing to be banned in America and wanted her money to be used specifically for this purpose.
Wouldn’t that be amazing to see headlines from all these organizations and veterinarians saying things like…
WE UNDERSTAND TIMES HAVE CHANGED AND PEOPLE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE WELFARE OF CATS LIKE NEVER BEFORE. SO WE TOO MUST CHANGE.
WE ARE ANNOUNCING THAT WE WILL BE COMPLETELY HONORING THE OATH WE TOOK TO JUST HELP AND HEAL ANIMALS. WE WILL BE ADVOCATES FOR ALL ANIMALS AND LOOK OUT FOR THEIR NEEDS FIRST.
WE WILL STOP THE INHUMANE PRACTICE OF DECLAWING… COMPLETELY.
New Yorkers, today is the last day for you to RSVP to this important event that will help protect animals from harm and cruelty. But where is the support for our NY bill from ASPCA and a vow to help end declawing?????
Can you PLEASE respectfully, nicely, and kindly ask them why they won’t be supporting the bill to ban declawing at this event? Grassroots@aspca.org
There is a deeply troubling emerging picture of inappropriate standard of care and substandard practice of veterinary medicine with regards to declawing in America. Declawing cats with no pain meds.
“I still was thinking it was a sprain so after she examined him, she found nothing but she told me I should declaw him!”
I have a serious and urgent subject to address and have put on my Feline Bureau of Investigation hat to get to the bottom of this alleged crime.
If the AAFP truly cares about the welfare of cats, they can do what their European equivalents, International Society of Feline Medicine/ICatCare.org, have done for years, and that is to only give their Cat Friendly accreditation to practices to vet practices that don’t declaw cats.
Today is Flashback Friday and I’m in quite a reflective mood. That’s me in the middle with the cone of shame on. It’s from my overnight stay at the Emergency Veterinary Hospital when I came down with that scary vestibular disease.
