Here are many examples of those in the veterinary profession and some outside of it, who could truly help to end the inhumane procedure of declawing, but aren’t.
2016-2017 NYSVMS Officers- Do they practice what they preach?
I thought that the veterinarians who would most likely be practicing what they preach in regards to declawing, would be the Presidents and board members at the New York State Veterinary Medical Society. After all, they want all the legislators to believe and trust them to believe that declawing must remain a procedure on their lists of services at their practices.
Is this unethical pro-declaw veterinarian the NYSVMS public relation’s minion?
I encourage kitten owners to schedule front-claw removal when the animals are spayed or neutered. And I recommend the same procedure, which is done under general anesthesia, for older cats if they are creating problems. Young cats usually recover in two or three days. Recovery is a little longer for cats more than 2 years old. Interested cat owners should talk with their veterinarians. Declawing cats can enhance the relationship between cats and their people. Did Cornell Give a Big FU to Rhoda Hogan’s $125,000 Bequest Because She’s a Woman?
Rhoda A Hogan wanted 1/8 th of her estate to be a bequest of $125,000 for, “An organization to be used to publicize and educate the public about the cruel effect of de-clawing cats and to support legislation forbidding it.”
She wanted declawing to be banned in America and wanted her money to be used specifically for this purpose.

Dear City,
Any veterinarian who does this (declawing) should be stripped of their doctorate, their practices should be shut down, massive fines need to be applied. Named and shamed, the owners especially, should be fined as well massive amounts of money and banned from ever owning another animal as long as they live .
They are disgraceful and pathetic and should be disgusted in themselves, the price these poor cats pay for the aesthetic pleasure that these owners apparently get is beyond unbalanced and completely unnecessary.

If the AAFP truly cares about the welfare of cats, they can do what their European equivalents, International Society of Feline Medicine/ICatCare.org, have done for years, and that is to only give their Cat Friendly accreditation to practices to vet practices that don’t declaw cats.
